Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
1. Introduction
Paperly is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle information, with a focus on our local-first design. It applies to the Paperly application and to usepaperly.store.
Paperly is operated by Sahil Naikwade. Questions: support@usepaperly.store.
2. Local-first processing
Document scanning, OCR (optical character recognition), image filtering, PDF editing, fill and sign, markup and annotations, PDF generation, and export occur locally on your device. We do not upload your documents to any server.
Scans, filters, OCR, signatures, and PDFs are processed on the device unless you choose to export or share a file. On iPhone, OCR uses on-device ML Kit recognition; recognized text stays in local metadata for search and export. Paperly Desktop OCR also runs on the machine using Paperly and does not depend on a cloud OCR service. Offline OCR is not a claim that nothing ever leaves the device.
3. Analytics and telemetry
Paperly does not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, or crash telemetry.
4. Data we access
Depending on the platform and the features you use, Paperly may access:
- Camera — to scan physical documents and QR codes.
- Storage / files — to save generated PDFs and import existing images or documents.
- Biometrics — to secure access to the app and specific documents using device-native authentication, when you enable that option.
Paperly does not require an account or sign-in to scan, edit, or export documents.
5. When you contact us
If you email support or submit a support form, we receive the information you choose to send. That can include the text you enter, an optional reply email, an optional screenshot, and optional basic app diagnostics (such as app version and platform) if you include them.
Support messages are not a substitute for storing or processing your documents. We do not need your files to answer most questions, and you should not send sensitive documents unless you intend to.
6. This website
This website does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or consent-managed marketing scripts.
Download buttons and QR codes on this site link to the Apple App Store or Microsoft Store. Product Hunt and Launchpadly listings are hosted by those services; their own policies apply when you visit them. On some platforms, the Paperly app may check a store listing to see whether an update is available. That request does not include your documents.
7. Data retention
Documents and related metadata are stored locally in Paperly app storage on your device. Paperly does not retain copies of your documents on external servers. Deleting the app or its data from your device removes locally stored documents. After you export or share a file, copies that exist on the destination are outside Paperly.
8. Data protection standards
Paperly respects international data protection standards. As the data controller of your own device, you have full rights to your data. We do not sell or share your personal document content with third parties.
That statement describes how Paperly is designed. It is not a claim that Paperly is certified or fully compliant with any particular statute.
9. India-specific disclosure
Users in India are advised to handle sensitive documents such as Aadhaar or PAN cards with caution. Paperly provides on-device encryption via App Lock to help you secure these documents on the device.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the last-updated date at the top of this page.
